Setting Up a Store for Christmas Profits! (eCommerce website design basics)

Hi SaleHoo blog readers!

Welcome to the third instalment of our Simple 5 Step Method for Mega Sales this Holiday Season. So far, we have looked at how to find a profitable niche and how to find a trusted drop ship supplier to work with.

Hopefully you are following along with this series and you have found a niche and a supplier. If you haven’t don’t worry, there is still time to get ready for the upcoming holidays, but don’t delay because it’s coming fast!

Today we will look at drop shipping from your own website, and using SaleHoo Stores, I’ll show you just how easy it is to setup your very own store.

You might be thinking that this is just going to be a promotion for SaleHoo Stores, but really, this is about showcasing how easy it is, and most importantly, how beneficial it is, for you to sell on your own website.

And yes, we’ll do some shameless self-promotion of SaleHoo Stores while we are at it! (If you are interested in getting your own SaleHoo Store, we have a sweet deal available, more on this later).

I’ll also cover a couple of tips for writing item descriptions that get you good search engine rankings (essential when you sell on your own website).

Why eCommerce website owners make more money than you

It’s well known that eBay has become an extremely competitive market and this makes it hard to earn good profits when you make sales there.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of people who make very good money on eBay, but a lot of these people aren’t small business owners; They are often larger companies with huge buying power, large warehouses and a team of staff that help to keep things running.

There are still plenty of “mom and pop” business owners on eBay, but unfortunately they have become the minority.

As eBay continues to roll out policies that make it harder for smaller retailers to succeed there, more and more retailers are moving to their own eCommerce website and use eBay as a secondary space to sell items.

The great news is that the demand for simple eCommerce websites has led to some very easy to use shopping carts being built – now you don’t need any technical skills to start and manage your very own store. And that’s what I’m going to show you today; just how easy it really is to run your own eCommerce website.

Hopefully you will remember that I found a niche market in cloth diapers and I found a drop shipper that I can use to sell them from my site, so I’m going to be setting up a store today where I can sell all cloth diapers and other baby-related items. I’ve come up with a name for my store, Patticake Baby and I’ve bought a domain for the store which cost me $10 - I’ll show you the store in the video below so click play and watch me setup my store.

Where are the above mentioned videos?
Alice Delore on 20:57 26 Aug

SaleHoo Stores isn't like eBay and eBid where popularity counts. With SaleHoo Stores, you have complete control and it's up to you to make your store 'popular'. This might sound a bit daunting but our stores were built with the search engines in mind so it's a lot easier to get a good ranking in Google compared with other store options :)

They don't show up until you click them unfortunately, so they are a bit hard to see. Sorry about that, but just click the white space and you will see them. Cheers :)

HI Alice, Thanks very much for a great tutorial! Very helpful. I just have one question about Salehoo Stores. Is it possible to put Affiliate links on the website and does the setup of the web page provide for that option?

I have a website and a hosting company for it. Is there a way I can host the Salehoo store through the hosting company I'm going with now?
Irene Vallejo on 3:33 4 Sep
@jeffcarrie I have confirmed with our Head of Sevices that the SaleHoo Stores can only be hosted by SaleHoo. Let us know if you need more help, you may reach us at
Irene Vallejo on 3:42 4 Sep
@Maupd The SaleHoo Stores is generally designed as an ecommerce platform and not for affiliate marketing. You may however, add your affiliate links in your products' descriptions. :) Hope this helps.

Is the $27 monthly fee good for just one website / store? What if I want a site for lingerie and another for car parts?
Irene Vallejo on 4:30 5 Sep
@Jim Yes, you can create only one store under one price plan / email address. If you are interested in purchasing two (or more) SaleHoo Stores (all under Basic Stores plan for example), you will need to use different email addresses for your account log on. Should you need any help, do get in touch with us at Cheers!

Very timely post. Christmas is coming and stores get higher sales in this season. I think it’s a very good idea to think of a product to sell.
Shawn on 4:26 2 Nov
I just purchased a SaleHoo Store after successfully selling about 40 products through eBay & Amazon in a month and half. I wanted to create a website with my own touch and passion instead of going by Amazons & Ebays restrictions and fees. Now I am at the point of stocking the store with a variety of products anything from mobile accessories, video games, seasonal products and other consumer and household products. Any suggestions on possible profitable items and ways to market my new website? Like I said I just purchased the store so I am in the process of editing and adding products so any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks

Could you provide a comparison of benefits of using your SaleHoo store with that of Shopify?
Richelle Monfort on 3:38 4 Apr
Hello William,

Here's a comparison of what SaleHoo offers versus other eCommerce site services:

With SaleHoo Stores, you'll have everything you need to create a fully-functional site starting moments after you sign up. Set up, maintain and optimize your site quickly and easily with the click of a button! Most of the other sites require purchase of extra apps and programs (at additional costs) to make their software fully operational. Making you pay extra before you've even started? That doesn't seem right to us. Does it to you?

We created the software to optimize every page of your site for you. Especially efficient with long-tail search terms, you'll get all the benefits of having your own SEO specialist right out of the box! Many other programs do NOT generate search engine optimized pages. What's the point? Without high-quality SEO, you can have a fantastic site, amazing products and terrific customer support, but you'll have no traffic and no visitors. No visitors = no sales.

Unlike other sites that offer you a subdomain only, you always have the option of creating your very own domain and URL for your SaleHoo Stores site. Many other sites offer you a subdomain option only, this means your URL might look something like this: www.mystore.OnlineStore With only a subdomain you can't track your analytics or get the real web presence you're looking for.

You have a full 60 days to try out everything SaleHoo Stores offers. If for any reason you are unsatisfied, you can request a refund and we'll return every penny you paid with no questions asked. Others offer ones that are so short, it doesn't give you the time you need to truly evaluate the software. And, finally, still others make it so difficult to cancel, it's almost not worth the effort (even though they continue charging you month after month for a service you're not even using)

SaleHoo Stores uses the latest on-page keyword density metrics, meta tags, and optimization for long-tail searches, you are assured of becoming a niche-traffic superstar. You can expect and watch your products move higher and higher in the rankings!

All the best!
