A pair of really good looking sunglasses is an accessory everyone should have! It just so happens that one of the most sought after sunglasses’ brands is Oakley and the data from our Research Lab shows us just how profitable a niche they can be!

Not convinced? Let’s take a closer look at how in demand Oakley sunglasses are.

Sell-through Rate: Will you make enough sales?

With my previous searches on the Research Lab, branded products usually did not have a very promising sell through rate but with a sell through rate of 68.17% Oakley sunglasses are definitely promising!

When you do research using the SaleHoo Research Lab, keep in mind that, ideally it’s best to sell products with a sell through rate of at least 50%-60%.

Median End Price: Do the number work?

As of September 2011, the median end price for a pair of Oakley sunglasses is $87.85. Remember that the median end price is the average price that the item sold for the month before and basically gives you an idea of how much the item sold for.

Total Listings, Total Bids and Total Sellers: Scoping out the competition

So just how good is the market for Oakley sunglasses? Based on the data gathered by our Research Lab, you can see that there are twice as many listings as there are sellers but look closer and you’ll see that there is at least five times are many bidders as there are listings!

Although there are currently 18,854 listings from 9,150 sellers, there are also currently 96,196 bids on eBay alone. The market definitely looks good.

Data Trends: What are other sellers earning?

Using our Research Lab you can also check the number of items sold, total revenue and average revenue within a one month period. The Data Trends feature helps you see when your product’s sales peaked and when it didn't do too good on eBay.

The graph below shows the total revenue made by sellers selling Oakley sunglasses from August 30 to October 1. Within those dates the highest total revenue was $54,764.40 while the lowest total revenue was $36,096.12 which is still relatively high.

Going beyond eBay: Are web users searching Google for Oakley sunglasses?

Get to direct potential traffic towards your online store or eBay listing by checking just how many people are searching for your product on Google. My tool of choice for keyword research is Traffic Travis. You can download your free SEO software by visiting www.traffictravis.com

Using Traffic Travis you can check how many people are searching for Oakley sunglasses in search engines like Google.

What do these numbers mean?

For the month of September, there were 165,000 searches globally and another 110,000 searches in the US alone clearly showing that people are indeed searching for the perfect pair of Oakley Sunglasses!

Although the number of searches are high you have to take into consideration that some of these people searching on Google may not necessarily be buyers rather sellers checking out their competition.

You say the median end price is $87.85 on Ebay which is the average price the glasses are selling for - yet the "wholesale" sources you suggest have "wholesale" prices at least twice that!! So how can we compete?
  • John Bertrand 21st of November
Not much meat on these three suppliers really. The first two are useless, and the third one is in the UK. Not that great for us in America as we lose considerably in the exchange.

Hi flipp and jbhabs, With all niches, you need to make a bulk wholesale purchase in order to get a product at a price which sells well on eBay. Simply visiting the site and taking the posted prices as the final wholesale price will only lead to frustration. You might want to try getting in touch with the supplier and see how many you will need to buy to get the best price. We have other suppliers for this niche but we cannot feature all of them. Should you wish to view the other suppliers we encourage you to try using the research lab or you can email us at http://www.salehoo.com/support Cheers!

Hi Richelle, have to agree with previous comments the suppliers mention don't seem to carry Oakley products and if you do get to source them as you have alluded to you need to buy in bulk not very easy if you are starting out with a limited budget all that capital tied up.With that said you also have the very major issue of counterfeit Oakley branded goods being offered out there undermining the real thing and buyers confidence to boot.Would have to think long and hard before entering this market..but that's me.

    Hi Igsey,

Thanks for your comment. You've raised two important points.

You're right about buying in bulk - it's NOT always easy for people who are just starting out with a limited budget. We have a huge member base here at SaleHoo with both new members who are starting out with little start-up capital and also more established sellers with a bit of money behind them who are looking for new markets to get into.

Richelle's Monday Market posts cater to both types of members so that we cover everyone. I see you are a new member, so I suggest you take a look back through past Monday Market posts and see if there are other niches that will suit your circumstances better :)

Counterfeit Oakely branded sunglasses are certainly a threat to retailers, as well as the brand owner themselves, but as a SaleHoo member, you don't need to worry about this because we check each and every one of our suppliers and ensure their products are authentic and that they have rights to resell branded items.

If you are ever unsure about then authenticity of a product, feel free to ask us about it. Even if they are not a supplier listed in our directory, we can help determine whether their products are the real deal or not.

Well done, Richelle, on another great post!

On reading the previous posts about the wholesalers and their attitude, I don't think I will bother with them, so I am waiting on your next suppliers in your list so see if they are better.

Oakley Sunglasses Supplier #3, they don't sell Oakley brand. I am looking for Ray-ban wholesales supplier any suggestion?

That is a huge amount for a pair of sunglasses! I have had a pair of ‘branded’ sunglasses that had a similar price tag; and by Jove, its heart wrenching if you lose them. I mean, you could get a great pair of polarized sunglasses for less than a fraction of that amount which serve the purpose quite well. I have been getting similar examples since I lost my ‘expensive’ ones.
